Season Context
2025–26 Story So Far
Mike Brown replaced Tom Thibodeau in July 2025 after the Knicks fell in the Eastern Conference Finals to Indiana. Brown — a two-time Coach of the Year who won championships as an assistant under Popovich and Kerr — was hired with a clear mandate: get this roster to the Finals.
The early season hit turbulence with a rough stretch from late December to mid-January featuring two four-game losing skids. But the Knicks responded emphatically — a franchise-record blowout of the Nets capped a winning streak that righted the ship.
The crown jewel was the NBA In-Season Tournament: the Knicks defeated the Spurs on December 16 to claim the Cup title, becoming the first champions to win with a loss in group play.
Jose Alvarado arrived at the trade deadline (from the Pelicans, as part of the Yabusele-to-Chicago deal). Jordan Clarkson was a key offseason signing. Rookie Mohamed Diawara has flashed in spot minutes. With McBride's return looking likely before the playoffs, the Knicks may finally enter the postseason at full strength.
