Season Context
2025–26 Story So Far

Mike Brown replaced Tom Thibodeau in July 2025 after the Knicks fell in the Eastern Conference Finals to Indiana. Brown — a two-time Coach of the Year who won championships as an assistant under Popovich and Kerr — was hired with a clear mandate: get this roster to the Finals.

The early season hit turbulence with a rough stretch from late December through mid-January featuring two four-game losing skids. But the Knicks responded emphatically — a franchise-record 120–66 demolition of the Nets capped a five-game winning streak that righted the ship.

The crown jewel was the NBA Cup: the Knicks defeated the Spurs on December 16 to claim the title. At 6–1 in the competition, they became the first Cup champions to win the trophy despite a loss along the way.

Jose Alvarado arrived at the trade deadline from the Pelicans. Jordan Clarkson was a key offseason signing. Rookie Mohamed Diawara has flashed in spot minutes.

The Knicks clinched a playoff berth on March 30 and finished 53–29, the 3rd seed in the East — an improvement on last year's 51–31. Round 1 opens tonight at the Garden vs. the Atlanta Hawks.
