Season Context
2026 Story So Far
After an epic second-half collapse cost them the postseason in 2025, the Mets remade the roster. The infield was overhauled — Semien at 2B, Bichette at 3B, Polanco at 1B — and Freddy Peralta was acquired as the new ace. The pitching depth has been projected by The Athletic's Eno Sarris as the best in baseball, potentially carrying the Mets to their first World Series since 2015.
Carlos Mendoza confirmed the rotation order for Opening Day: Peralta, Peterson, McLean vs. Pittsburgh (Skenes vs. Peralta on Mar 26), then Holmes and Senga for St. Louis. Manaea enters a "piggyback" role — a decision that frustrated the lefty, but Mendoza cited six strong arms and early schedule off days.
Legendary radio voice Howie Rose announced he will retire after the 2026 season, his final year behind the mic. On the field, the Mets' payroll remains top-5 in MLB under owner Steve Cohen.
